Heuer Chrono 1589B "Ébauche Suisse"

Collector grade example of a funky late 70s reference

$2300.00

A crisp, collector-grade example of the late-1970s Heuer manual-wind chronograph Ref. 1589B, produced during Heuer's French contract era with G. Monnin. Distinguished by its "Ébauche Suisse" and "Incabloc" dial signatures, this reference features an instrument-style layout: a matte white main dial with square dark grey sub-registers, a framed date window at 3 o'clock, a bright orange chronograph hand, and a sharp black outer tachymeter ring.

The Ref. 1589B is an important document of late-1970s Heuer history, produced in France by G. Monnin. The "Ébauche Suisse" signature at 6 o'clock denotes raw movement components imported from Valjoux in Switzerland for final casing across the French border.

The French Assembly Era

During the late 1970s (specifically circa 1978), Heuer contracted the assembly of select manual-wind chronographs to French case and assembly specialists, most notably G. Monnin in Hauterive. This strategic move allowed Heuer to maintain high manufacturing standards while mitigating the soaring value of the Swiss Franc during the height of the Quartz Crisis. The French assembly provenance is formally verified by the "Made in France" engraving on the inner case back.

The "Ébauche Suisse" Dial Signature

Under strict trade origin regulations of the era, timepieces cased or assembled in France were prohibited from bearing a standard "Swiss Made" signature on the dial. Because the raw movement assembly (ébauche) originated from Valjoux in Switzerland while final assembly took place in France, French law mandated the "Ébauche Suisse" signature at 6 o'clock, typically paired with "Incabloc".

Movement Architecture: Valjoux Caliber 7765

Powering the Ref. 1589B is the manual-wind Valjoux Caliber 7765. Developed in the late 1970s by removing the automatic winding rotor and 12-hour register from the Valjoux 7750 platform, this high-beat (28,800 vph) movement features a running continuous seconds register at 9 o'clock, a 30-minute totalizer at 12 o'clock, and a framed quickset date window at 3 o'clock.

CONDITION:

Preserved in outstanding condition, the dial surface, mineral crystal, and original hand assembly are completely mint, featuring original tritium hour markers that have aged to a uniform, warm patina.
