The Comeback of Favre-Leuba & the Retro-Inspired Raider Harpoon Dive Watch

The Favre-Leuba Raider Harpoon revives the brand's dive watch heritage. Founded in the early 18th century, Favre-Leuba has a storied history, including the 1962 Bivouac—the first wristwatch with an altimeter—and the Bathy, the first dive watch with a depth gauge.

The brand went quiet in recent years, changing ownership multiple times before Titan Company Limited acquired it in 2011. It is now led by Thomas Morf (formerly with Bucherer and Hanhart).

The Harpoon stands out with its 1960s-inspired design: bold colors, a round dial, and a barrel-shaped case with retro-futuristic lines.

Its patented single-hand system, developed in-house, displays both hours and minutes. Hours appear on a rotating disc around the dial, while the hand focuses on minutes—ideal for diving, where minutes take priority. A central running seconds indicator confirms the watch is operating, meeting ISO 6425 standards. The hour disc rotates in precise sync with the hand for clear readability.

The watch runs on an automatic movement based on the Sellita SW200, with a custom module. Dial and hand details draw from classic Favre-Leuba models like the Bathy and Deep Blue.

At 46 mm wide and 16.5 mm thick, the steel case is large but comfortable. It includes a unidirectional bi-color bezel in anodized aluminum, a double AR-coated sapphire crystal, and dual crowns: one at 4 o’clock for winding, the other a helium escape valve (engraved with “He”) positioned for symmetry.

The screw-down case back ensures 500 m water resistance and is aligned so the logo and engravings always sit upright.

It comes on a metal bracelet with a safety clasp and dive extension (rubber and leather straps available separately). Retail price: CHF 4,950 with bracelet.
