Featuring its unmistakable vertical pusher housing, this was the world’s first analog quartz chronograph—the perfect industrial match for Ellen Ripley.  This particular example is a rarer version produced for the international market.  It has a "Seiko SQ" claps and additional writing on the dial "Sports 100".

The Industrial Icon

Designed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro, the 7A28-7000 is perhaps the most recognizable "movie watch" in horological history. Its asymmetrical, futuristic aesthetic earned it a starring role on the wrist of Sigourney Weaver in the 1986 masterpiece Aliens. This particular example dates to April 1983, the very first year of production for this revolutionary movement.

Technical Excellence

While its cinematic pedigree is undeniable, the 7A28-7000 is a marvel of engineering in its own right. It houses the 7A28 movement, the world’s first quartz chronograph to utilize analog hands. Unlike modern disposable quartz movements, the 7A28 was built with a full metal gear train and 15 jewels, making it robust, serviceable, and incredibly accurate.

Collector’s Note

This reference is a cornerstone for collectors of both Seiko and Giugiaro designs. Finding examples that retain the original matte finish and crisp action on the vertical pushers is increasingly difficult. It is a rare opportunity to own a piece of functional art that bridged the gap between 1980s avant-garde design and peak Japanese electronics.
