The Heuer Monza Ref. 150.511 is one of the most charismatic racing chronographs of the 1970s. While the Monza is famous for being Heuer’s first black-coated watch, this specific chrome-case version (the 150.511) is a rare and striking alternative that offers a brighter, more classic "tool watch" aesthetic compared to its PVD-coated sibling.
A Tribute to Ferrari’s Golden Era
Launched in 1976, the Heuer Monza was created to celebrate Niki Lauda’s 1975 Formula One World Championship victory with Scuderia Ferrari. While the model was a pioneer in black-coated watch design, the Reference 150.511 provides a rare variation: a brilliant chrome-plated brass case paired with a stainless steel screw-down back.
The 150.511 is defined by its "C-Shape" or cushion-shaped case, a hallmark of 1970s avant-garde design. Its matte black dial is punctuated by vibrant Ferrari-red accents on the hands and the 30-minute sub-dial. This model is particularly sought after by collectors because many chrome-plated examples suffered from "brassing" over the decades; finding one with its original plating intact, such as this example, is a true rarity.
Inside beats the Calibre 15, a unique evolution of the legendary Calibre 11. It is instantly recognizable by the offset small-seconds sub-dial at 10 o'clock, which gives the Monza its iconic, asymmetrical racing personality.
Condition:
Overall this example is in excellent vintage condition. The case is near perfect with no noticeable marks / scratches. The dial and hands are in mint condition; the tritium lume is intact with mimimal ageing. The red highlights on the dial & hands are particularly vibrant.
The movement has been serviced by our Watchmaker and is in excellent working order for its age. On the timegrapher it is runing +2 sec/day with amplitude of 268.
