Since 1967, the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal has been part of the Formula One World Championship. In the early 1970s, Heuer named the newly developed chronograph after this city to emphasize the brand's close association with racing. The Heuer Montreal 110.503 was introduced in 1972. It was visually very different from other Heuer chronographs. The connection to racing and the relatively short production period of the MK1 version (from 1972 to 1976) makes this chronograph a first-class collector's watch.
The Montreal is powered by the manual wind movement Caliber 12. The winding crown is at 9 o'clock, as it is usual with the legendary calibers 11 and 12. In addition to the beautiful dial layout, the case size makes the Montreal even more attractive. The Montreal's 42mm case fits perfectly on any wrist and is very comfortable to wear.
TAG Heuer has made new releases of Monaco, Silvestone, Monza and Autavia. But there is no reedition of the Montreal, making it even more attractive to collectors.
This rarer version of the Montreal 110.503 was famously worn by the young promising German F1 racing driver Stefan Bellof, the watch belonged to his father. His accidental death on the racetrack in Spa on 1st of September 1985 shocked the motoring world.
Bellof was the winner of the Drivers' Championship in the 1984 FIA World Endurance Championship, driving for the factory Rothmans Porsche team. His lap record on the Nordschleife configuration at the Nürburgring, set while qualifying for the 1000 km race in 1983, stood for 35 years. His watch is on display in Stefan-Bellof-Memorial nearby Gießen, Germany.
The watch features a stunning matte-black dial, beautifully complemented by the creamy lume in the hands. Additionally, the sunburst case lends a cool and sporty appearance, making the watch a true eye-catcher.
