One of Seiko’s earliest Quartz watches after the famous Astron

The 38 calibre were Seikos first full production quartz watch after the release of the worlds first quartz analogue the Seiko Astron in 1969.  Back then these were likely handmade and assembled.  In 1971 Seiko released the 38XX models that were the first Quartz watches built in high numbers and they still cost three times the price of the average Grand Seiko chronometer.  The 38XX Series was was divided into models such as SQ, QT, QR and QZ Quartz.  The serial number dates this particular watch to September 1973.

 

The case is gold coloured with a silver back with slightly protruding battery holder. A beautiful old Sunburst dial. Markers are all applied including “Seiko” and the emblem. The size is 38mm including the crown.

 

Condition:

There are some light scratches to the sides of the case.  The dial and hands are flawless. The movement was cleaned, battery changed and glass polished.     We have paired it with a beautiful matching tan, calf leather strap.
