The German watch manufacturer Junghans has been present on the market for more than 150 years. The company owes its high reputation within the industry primarily to its innovative, technically advanced solutions. Junghans watches are known for their high precision and reliability. A very important milestone in the history of Junghans watches was the manufacture's nomination as official timekeeper at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
To commemorate their involvement they made an entire series of ‘Olympic’ branded watches, but it would seem, based on current availability, each model was produced in limited production numbers.
This beautiful watch features the typical retro design of the 1970s, which is very popular with vintage lovers. At 12 o'clock you can see the Junghans star logo, the manufacturer signature and the model name. Dominating the black dial are 3 oversized subdials. The subdial & seconds hands are light red and the main hands have red accents which remind one of the sporting accents of the famous Heuer Monaco & Autavia 1163V models.
Thanks to its pillow shape, the Olympic sits comfortably on the wrist. The 42mm case still has the original sunburst finish on its surface and is almost matt in appearance. There is also the bi-directional bezel with lovely aged lumed dot at 12. It turns freely and smoothy.
The watch is powered by a hand wound, Valjoux 7736 movement which was serviced in April 2023.
This Junghans Olympic has a flawless dial and a perfect, unpolished case. It is accompanied by and original Swiss Tropic Sport strap The excellent condition combined with an interesting history and rarity results in a very collectible and cool vintage watch that can be worn daily.
