Introduced in 1972, the Montreal chronographs (110.503) powered by the Calibre 12 movement were Heuer’s boldest embodiment of the wild style and colors of the 1970s.

The Montreal exemplified the outrageous style of the decade – the case was oversized, with radical geometry and alternating brushed and polished finishes, and the dials, inner bezels and hands used bright, contrasting colors.

While later in the 1970s Heuer would use the name of racing venues for its chronographs (Daytona, Monza and Jarama, for example), the Montreal chronograph was named to capture the energy and cosmopolitan style of the metropolitan that was emerging as a leading city of the world. Montreal had hosted the World’s Fair in 1967 (called “Expo 1967”) and had been named to host the Summer Olympic Games in 1976. Formula One racing would only come to Montreal in 1978, when the island that had been built to host Expo 1967 was reconfigured to incorporate a race track.

TAG Heuer has made new releases of Monaco, Silvestone, Monza and Autavia. But there is no reedition of the Montreal, making it even more attractive to collectors.

Condition:

The dial is near perfect with an even blue color throughout. There is one tiny mark on the dial between 7 & 8pm. The luminous material on the dial in intact and has a creamy patina and matches that on the hands. Original fluted pushers and a signed crown.  The case has been recently restored to its original factory sunburst finish and is free from any scratches and indentations.

The movement has been fully serviced by our in-house watchmaker and is keeping timing accurately for a 50 year old timepiece (-5sec/265). The chronograph starts, stops and resets crisply.
