1972 Heuer Autavia 73663
Rare & beautiful Tri-Compax Autavia
$5900.00$5500.00
The Heuer Autavia is perhaps one of the most iconic racing chronographs. Heuer first applied the name "Autavia" (a combination of "automotive" and "aviation") to dashboard clocks in cars and airplanes. But it's with the chronographs intended for use in motorsports that the name "Autavia" is best associated. The large 42mm stainless steel case of the Autavia has its unmistakable cushion shape. The watch looks very solid on the wrist and is comfortable to wear due to the curved case shape. The chronograph pushers are fluted, the winding crown shows the Heuer logo.
This rare and desirable Autavia features the motorsports evocative red accents which contrast with the rich black dial and white subdials. This manual winding reference is an unusual find, with the vast majority of Autavias from this period being powered by automatic movements (and their distinctive left-handed crowns). The lovely condition of this 73663 adds to its rarity, with minimal signs of wear, 50 years since its manufacture.
The 73663 is powered by the robust, manual wind calibre Valjoux 7736, 3-register chronograph movement. It is beautifully complemented by a high quality, 9-row, beads of rice (BOR) bracelet with clasp, a replica of the original Gay Freres bracelet.

Overall, the watch is in excellent condition. Dial and hands show a homogenous patina and matching tritium lume. The watch case has no visible scratches and retains its factory brushing finish.
