As a sister company to Omega within SSIH, Lemania was responsible for producing renowned movements like the Calibre 920, 861, and 321, which have become iconic within Omega's history. The Lemania dials featured in these watches add an alluring touch of exclusivity, making them true oddities to be cherished.
While these watches bear Omega-signed crowns, clasps, cases, straps, and movements that feature in Omega Geneve Chronostop 146.012, their dials stand out with the Lemania crown logo at the top. The only inscription on the dial is the enigmatic word "Racing" elegantly positioned.
The Lemania Racing Chronograph showcases a stainless steel case, proudly retaining its original unpolished condition. With a commanding 41.5mm diameter and a monocoque front face opening, this watch exudes a strong and sharp presence on the wrist.
At the heart of this remarkable timepiece beats the renowned Calibre 920 movement. Derived from the revered Calibre 861 found in the Speedmaster Professional, the Calibre 920
features manual winding and operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour. Although lacking hacking and quickset date functions, when properly serviced, this movement can achieve impressive levels of accuracy. The chronograph mechanism, distinguished by its cam and lever design, is activated by a single round push-piece discreetly located on the case-band at 2 o'clock. The sequence of its functions follows the order of Start -> Stop -> Reset, making each press an engaging experience.
Adding to its horological prowess, the Lemania Racing Chronograph offers two complications. Firstly, a precise 1/6 second chronograph enables instant return-to-zero functionality, embodying the spirit of racing precision. Secondly, a half-instantaneous date of the month, discreetly displayed at 3 o'clock, adds both practicality and charm to this exceptional timepiece.
Originally introduced exclusively in the Italian market, these Lemania Racing Chronographs hold a special place in horological history. While some consider them rare prototypes, their actual production quantity remains a subject of debate. Though they may not possess Omega dials, their status as true Omega watches is upheld by the combination of Omega-signed components, including the iconic crown.
