A true "if you know, you know" timepiece, this 1970s Lemania Racing Chronograph represents a unique chapter in the shared history of Lemania and Omega. Produced during the SSIH era, this model was released exclusively for the Italian market. While it carries the Lemania name on the dial, it is, in every other sense, an Omega Chronostop Reference 146.012.
A Study in Horological Mystery
The allure of this piece lies in its paradoxical branding. While the dial proudly displays the Lemania crown and the enigmatic "Racing" script, the rest of the watch—the case, crown, movement, and integrated clasp—are all Omega-signed. Often referred to by collectors as a "prototype," these watches were a limited-run experiment for the Italian market, making them significantly rarer than their standard Omega-branded counterparts.
Performance & Pedigree
Inside lies the Calibre 920, a manual-wind movement derived from the legendary Calibre 861 found in the Moonwatch. This high-frequency (21,600 vph) movement is famous for its "flyback-style" stop-second complication.
The single-pusher at 2 o'clock provides a tactile, engaging experience:
Press and Release: Starts the chronograph.
Press and Hold: Stops the hand to read the time.
Release: Instantly resets the hand to zero.
Design & Presence
Housed in a rounded 41.5mm stainless steel monocoque case, this watch offers a commanding presence that feels remarkably modern for a vintage piece. The front-loading case design ensures a sharp, seamless silhouette, while the dark gray dial with its minimalist "Racing" inscription exudes a clean, 1970s-sport aesthetic.
