Enicar Sherpa Super-Dive - A Collector's Gem
The iconic Sherpa line from Enicar, launched in 1956, represents a timeless blend of innovation and design. This particular Super-Dive model stands out as the largest dive watch in the series, housed in an impressive 40mm bayonet-style Super Compressor case crafted by the renowned case maker Ervin Piquerez S.A. (EPSA). Adding to its allure, the case back features the EPSA engraving along with the SeaPearl logo, symbolizing its remarkable water-tight capabilities.
The Revolutionary Super Compressor Case
Patented by EPSA in 1956, the Super Compressor case introduced a groundbreaking sealing mechanism that responded to water pressure. As pressure increased, the spring-loaded case back tightened further, enhancing its reliability underwater. Another standout feature was its innovative bezel mechanism, which employed a secure three-pronged system:
Unlike conventional dive watch bezels that rotated bidirectionally, risking potential errors during dives, this design incorporated a unidirectional internal timing ring for improved safety.
Adjustments to the bezel were made via an additional crown, giving the watch its distinct twin-crown silhouette.
While the crown-operated bezel posed challenges when wearing gloves, the Super Compressor case became a celebrated advancement, adopted by leading watchmakers like Jaeger-LeCoultre, Enicar, Universal Genève, and IWC.
Enicar Super-Dive - Historical Prestige
Enicar's mastery of the Super Compressor technology led to the creation of numerous references and variations of this iconic dive watch. Its reputation extended to military use, notably as the official diving watch of the Polish Navy. Enthusiasts cherish the Super Dive for its bold design, characterized by large trapezoidal tritium markers, "cigarette" style hour and minute hands, and the charming lollipop sweep seconds hand.
