The 1969 Omega Seamaster “Bullhead” Ref. 146.011 is a legendary chronograph, revered for its rarity and bold design, with only around 600 pieces produced. Part of Omega’s Chronostop range, this short-lived model (available for just 18 months) was crafted as an entry-level chronograph aimed at drivers and sportsmen. Its distinctive aesthetic and scarcity cement its status as one of the coolest and rarest Omega chronographs of the 1960s and 1970s, making it a prized collector’s piece.

The “Bullhead” earns its name from its unique asymmetrical stainless steel case, measuring 41.5 x 42 mm, thicker at the top than the bottom. The winding crown and dual chronograph pushers, positioned at 12 o’clock, enhance its unconventional charm, while an internal rotating bezel adds functionality. This radical design, paired with the vibrant creativity of Omega’s late-1960s era, aligns it with iconic models like the Flightmaster, showcasing the brand’s daring approach to watchmaking.

Powered by the hand-wound Caliber 930, a modified version of the Caliber 860 with a date function, the movement is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise to achieve the signature bullhead layout. Exclusive to this model and a select De-Ville variant, the Caliber 930 underscores the watch’s exclusivity. With its robust construction and striking design, the Seamaster Bullhead Ref. 146.011 remains a testament to Omega’s innovative spirit and enduring appeal among vintage watch enthusiasts.

Condition:

Overall this is an amazing example retaining it's original vibrant, yellow mustard tones on the dial (with no fading) and a lovely sharp case with no visible scratches.  The lume is fully intact on dial with a faded green tone.  The lume on the hands exhibits some patina and darkening from age.  The original plexiglass has some faint surface scratches.   We have sourced the correct OEM replacement strap (identical to the 1969 original) for this reference directly from Omega and is unworn.

The movement has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and comes with service receipt. All functions are working correctly, the crown action is smooth and the watch resets crisply.  On the timegrapher it's running at +4 to +8s/day with an amplitude of 244.
