1969 Enicar Ocean Pearl 072-03-01

Long before the automatic chronograph era, Enicar established itself as an undisputed master of wrist chronographs. Deeply rooted in motorsport, civil aviation, and professional timing instruments, the manufacture pioneered bold, ultra-durable tool watches characterized by high-grade compressor cases and striking graphic dials.

While standard production for the Reference 072-03-01 leaned almost exclusively into dark grey or deep blue executions, the white dial variation shown here is an extraordinary anomaly. Frequently dubbed "the Unicorn" by collectors due to its scarcity, this reference stands as one of the most distinctive manual-wind sport chronographs of its era.

Complete with its original Enicar-signed stainless steel bracelet and original period-correct box, finding a complete set for this rare execution is virtually unheard of in today's market.

Design & Aesthetics

The stark matte white dial on this reference has aged into a warm, uniform ivory presence that completely redefines the wrist presence of the 072-03-01 case. Its three recessed slate sub-registers feature high-contrast black & red accents that closely echo the functional aesthetic of the iconic Omega Soccer Timer.  Framing the dial is an integrated inner tachymeter ring, while applied steel hour markers with black enamel striping provide outstanding dimensional depth.

The bold 40mm C-shape cushion case features sweeping brushed top surfaces and lightly brushed side bevels. It retains its original signed Saturn crown and dual pushers, paired with Enicar's signature Ocean Pearl compressor back displaying the iconic shark jumping out of the ocean over the central Saturn emblem.

Condition:

Dial & Hands: Excellent vintage condition. The original white dial has no visible marks with no visible ageing.  Sub-dials maintain crisp print and vivid red/black contrast. The silver part of the subidals has some spotting, visible on all three. Tritium lume is intact with only light patina. The sweeping seconds and subdial hands have largely retained their vibrant green colour with minimal ageing. 

Case: Strong stainless steel case retaining crisp geometry and clear original surface brushing. Light superficial wear consistent with careful historic wear. Case back engravings are lightly engraved but remain legible.

Movement: The manual-wind Valjoux 72 has just been fully serviced by our in-house Watchmaker.  Chronograph functions start, stop, and reset crisply to zero.  On the timegrapher it has a strong amplitude of 296 and losing only 1 second per day.

Bracelet & Accessories: The original Enicar-signed stainless steel bracelet exhibits light stretch appropriate for its era with sharp logo details on the clasp. The vintage Enicar box remains in solid structural condition both inside and out.
