The Orient Olympia Weekly "Special" is a vintage wristwatch produced by the Orient Watch Company in the early 1960s, produced during the brand's push to establish itself as a serious player in mechanical watches alongside Seiko and Citizen.
It's a pure JDM (Japan Domestic Market) piece from the era when Orient was still branding higher-end models as “Olympia Orient” to evoke prestige (a nod to the upcoming 1964 Tokyo Olympics and the Olympic branding trend of the time). The “Special” or “Swimmer” designation was marketing for improved water resistance over standard dress models.
The “Special” version we see here is a rarer version with reflective, diamond-like pattern on the outer dial and upgraded 19 jewel movement (the “19” designation on the dial). It features the same inverted-rainbow Kanji day window.
It a very affordable, vintage JDM watch for collectors and vintage watch enthusiasts.
It comes with new, high quality calf leather strap, value $80.
Condition:
The watch is in very good condition for its age. The case appears unpolished and the crystal has some minor scuffs that can easily be removed. The dial is clean except for a small chip at the center. The movement has been serviced by our watchmaker.
